What is your favorite way to learn?


  • Level 1. Grab 'n' Go. I want a superfast way to get the information. We recommend the "Video Only" option.

  • Level 2. Try 'n' Tinker. I want to try a data challenge. We recommend joining the Live Workshop. Not able to attend the event? "Video Only" options are available for those who want to try the data challenge.

Collect key indicators for your community using free sources of air pollution data and create a portfolio project.


3 Learning Objectives

by the end of the session, participants will be able to:


  1. Query & Collect 📊 data on air pollution in your region.

  2. Analyze data using the data tool: 🧰 🛠️ RStudio (Online).

  3. Visualize & Humanize data by creating a real-world portfolio project for a key stakeholder i.e. target audience.


Prerequisites. Beginner-friendly, some knowledge required like assigning a variable and knowing what functions are.

  • How do we measure air pollution and why does it matter to health?

  • Socio-ecological model for public health


Portfolio Project + Micro Certificate

🎯 Data Challenge: Using key indicators, create a real-world portfolio project for a key stakeholder for your region


🏆 Micro Certificate awarded for demonstrable skills and projects completed by Day 3 (timeline varies for Video-Only).

Time Budget: 20-40 minutes. Each project is designed to be successfully completed within 20-40 minutes.

The 90 minute workshop is split into 3 main parts. Unable to join the full event? There are "breakaway" moments between each part. Join us for 30 min, 1 hr, or the full 90 min session. Times are approximate. "Video-only" options are also available for those unable to make the event.

Certificate Seekers


Workshop attendees seeking certificates will 3-days to complete a Data Challenge. Each Data Challenge is designed to be explained in 20 min. Everyone learns at different paces and in different ways. The average time to complete the challenge is 20-40 minutes. Projects complete by midday Day 3 are awarded certificates.


Video-Only participants who are interested in earning certificates but will not be at the event, will be given a tutorial kit and video 1-3 weeks after the session. Further instructions about how to earn a certificate will be shared at that time.

Q: Will it be recorded?

Yes, parts of the session will be recorded. Want to participate in the Data Challenge, but unable to attend the event? Select the "Video Only" ticket option below.


Q: What will I need?

Computer recommended for the workshop. The workshop is an interactive and collaborative session. Joining on mobile is not recommended. If your worksite blocks collaborative platforms like Gdrive, please consider joining on a non-work computer.


Q: What if I cannot make the workshop on Tuesday?

We have a "Video Only" options for those who want to gain the knowledge and earn a microcertificate. We send email updates the week of the workshop.
